Bees And Vespine Wasps

Roger D Akre And Daniel F Mayer

Social insects, the ants, bees and wasps, are extremely attractive food sources to other insects including other social insects. The colony consists of relatively immobile brood (eggs, larvae, pupae) in addition to the queen and the sterile workers and frequently contains stored food such as honey and pollen. All these potential foods concentrated into a small area make social insect colonies potential prey for a multitude of other invertebrates and for vertebrates such as skunks, bear and man.
