Abstract

The ducts of the hypopharyngeal glands of a single worker honeybee (Apis mellifera), 35 days old, which contained brown granules, were examined by electron microscopy. Mycoplasma-like bodies located close to the duct walls were similar to those found in the salivary glands of insect vectors that transmit the plant disease 'aster yellows'.
